Weight gain, mood changes, insomnia, restless nights, hot flashes, weight gain, palpitations, forgetfulness–did I say weight gain?
I thought I was still young but when my periods stopped coming for over a year, the reality hit. I was in menopause.
I remember my mom’s struggle when she went through menopause…she would complain how bloated she felt and her clothes didn’t fit right. Now it was happening to me.
My clothes didn’t fit like before.
I never had a weight problem but now even though I wasn’t technically “overweight” my body was changing. I didn’t like it.
In the past I had always been able to eat what I wanted and didn’t think too much about restrictions. But not anymore.
I thought I could increase my exercise. It did help to shape my body, added muscle, my weight didn’t change and even went up.
But busy schedules and exercise seem to compete for time–exercise lost.
I tried intermittent fasting. The weight gain stopped but my diet was lacking the nutrition my body needed.
I didn’t want to hear or accept the “facts of menopause”. I just couldn’t accept these changes that were happening to me. There had to be some other way.
That’s when I started hearing about Wildfit with Eric Edmeades. I saw the results people were having and the reviews about how great they felt. I watched his video about the Six Core Hungers. It made sense to me.
So I enrolled.
“Ok…I’m in…all the way.” I agreed to Eric’s request to “Play full out”.
As I went through the course I learned so much about my body and nutrition. I became aware of how my body responded to different foods. I noticed the congestion I felt after eating flour. And how my heart raced after having sugar. I realized I didn’t really like coffee even though previously I couldn’t go a day without it.
By listening to my body’s internal dialogue, I learned what foods made me feel energized and which drained me.
But something else happened along the way. Caring for my health and my body in a whole new way was empowering. I started “showing up” for myself in other ways. I gained a freedom and independence I didn’t have before.
When I enrolled I hoped to lose 8-10 lbs, but by the end of the 90 days my body released 18 lbs and 19 inches overall.
I had to buy new clothes—but now for a smaller size than before.
Now that I am “Living Wildfit” I still feel better. I have more energy–without coffee in the morning or a sugary “pick me up” in the afternoon.
As a lipid specialist and nurse practitioner working with patients who have heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol problems, I am always looking for ways to live a healthy lifestyle with more energy and vitality.
After my experience with Wildfit, I knew I couldn’t keep this to myself. I had to talk about it. So when the offer came to become a Wildfit coach, I immediately responded. I finished the written exam and now it’s time for my first trial class.
My hope is that others will be empowered to take care of their bodies, to make the changes that will help their “future selves” live the kind of life they want to live.
